BizLink (3665.TW) Q3 2023 Earnings Call: the connector name NVIDIA later put on its 800 VDC list

Q3 2023 revenue NT$13.15bn with EPS NT$4.54. IT and datacom was the weak segment then; two years later NVIDIA named BizLink a power-component partner for 800 VDC.

At a glance. This is the most recent BizLink call in the archive, from December 2023 — well before NVIDIA published the 800 VDC architecture. It contains no 800 V content. It is here because BizLink is one of four Taiwan-listed names NVIDIA later put on its power-component list, and this is the only briefing we have.

What changed this quarter

IT and datacom was the problem. A major customer cut its outlook; the segment fell 28% year on year to 20% of sales. Management still pointed to HPC and data center as the recovery path, with new products launching in Q4 2023.

The balance sheet turned. Four consecutive quarters of positive free cash flow; cash exceeded debt by Q3, with deleveraging the priority.

A one-off refinancing cost hit the quarter. A US$3.5m syndicated-loan fee write-off after a successful refinancing.

The numbers

Q3 2023ValueChange
RevenueNT$13.15bn (~US$417m)flat QoQ, −9% from the prior-year peak
Gross margin26.69%
Operating margin10.75%
Net incomeNT$740m (~US$23m)
EPSNT$4.54 (~US$0.14)+65% QoQ, −40% YoY

Excluding a NT$683m inventory adjustment, gross margin was 26.55% versus 24.70% reported for the nine months — management's point being that underlying margin had been recovering for several quarters.

Opex held near NT$2.1bn for five consecutive quarters.

NVIDIA 800V read-through

There is none in this call. That is the fact, not a gap in the briefing.

BizLink's official slot is physical: NVIDIA's whitepaper calls for touch-safe connectors with mechanical interlocks so nothing disconnects under load, plus liquid-cooled cables and 1500 A busducts. The connector approach is borrowed from EV charging, which is already BizLink's competence.

Two things to take from the 2023 call anyway:

  • The HPC and data-center product cycle management said was starting in Q4 2023 is the commercial root of the position NVIDIA later recognized.
  • This is a coverage gap, not a coverage answer. Until a current call is in the archive, treat the official listing as the fact and this memo as background.

Segments that moved

BizLink runs a "4x4" model — four businesses across North America, Europe, East Asia, and Southeast Asia.

SegmentShare of salesYoY
Industrial40%−3%
Automotive24%+7%
IT and datacom20%−28%
Appliance15%−7%

Industrial was the anchor: factory automation cautious on soft global PMI, capital equipment recovering (+12% QoQ in Q3), and energy strong on industrial storage.

IT and datacom was the trough: a major customer cut its outlook, expected around mid-2024. Management was nonetheless positive on HPC and data center, said the downstream supply chain had begun to recover, and flagged new products in Q4 2023 expected to contribute through 2024.

Automotive was cautious on EV under high rates, with non-EV and charging more constructive.

Guidance

No numbered outlook. The qualitative message was deleveraging, a mid-2024 trough in IT and datacom, and new HPC/data-center products starting to contribute from Q4 2023 into 2024.
