Leadframes for power packages, with 800V HVDC parts already 6–8% of sales

Who Chang Wah is

Chang Wah Technology (6548.TW) manufactures leadframes — the stamped or etched copper-alloy frames that carry a chip's electrical connections and, critically for power devices, its heat. Its global competitors are Mitsui High-tec of Japan and Haesung HDS of Korea.

It is not on NVIDIA's list. It earns a place in this collection because it is the only Taiwan company here with 800V content already in reported revenue rather than in a roadmap.

Business mix

  • Process: etching is roughly 57% of output and stamping 43%, with etch trending up on power-management ICs and QFN demand. Management expects etch to settle in a 55–60% band.
  • Products: IC leadframes and QFN are each around a third of sales, with QFP, discrete, and EMC LED making up the rest.
  • Applications: consumer electronics is the largest bucket, industrial has been rising on data-center power demand, and automotive has been the slower end market.

Customers are IDMs and OSATs rather than end brands.

Where it sits in the NVIDIA 800 VDC stack

At the packaging step that has to exist before any 800 V rack ships. Every conversion stage in the architecture — the MV rectifier, the power shelf, the 64:1 LLC beside the GPU — steps voltage down, and stepping down produces heat. Copper-alloy leadframes are the thermal path out of those devices.

Chang Wah has disclosed that leadframes for AI server 800V HVDC applications are 6–8% of sales at an ASP 30–50% above standard products, requiring special surface treatment, with a target of 10–15% within one to two years. Management has declined to name which conversion stage its parts serve, on the grounds that the systems are still being designed.

Strategy

A "golden triangle" capacity plan across Taiwan, Weihai in China, and Malaysia, funded while maintaining a stated dividend floor of NT$0.45 per quarter and an average payout above 80% since 2024. The main cost variable is precious metal pricing — gold, silver, and palladium — which is passed through to IDM customers on an index basis.
