Who GlobalWafers is
GlobalWafers (6488.TW) is a pure wafer supplier — silicon first, then specialty wafers including FZ, SOI, SiC and GaN. Plants sit in nine countries across Asia, Europe and the Americas. The listed parent of the group is Sino-American Silicon (5483); the wafer P&L that matters for this collection is GlobalWafers itself.
It is not on NVIDIA's published 800 VDC list. It earns a place here because the chair, on the August 2025 call, named 800-volt power supplies and AI-server racks as part of the AI demand that is carrying the semiconductor market — and because the company still runs SiC and GaN as the two legs of its compound book.
Most of the money is still 12-inch silicon. Compound is a side book: GaN was full and being expanded; SiC was in a price collapse and the company said it was not exiting.
Business mix
The company does not split SiC or GaN as a percentage of sales on the August 2025 call. What it did split is size and geography:
- 12-inch silicon is the expansion target: after the current build-out, about two-thirds of capacity, half of that aimed at advanced nodes.
- 8-inch and smaller remain, but new plants were built so the company would not have to inherit surplus small diameters the way an acquisition would.
- SOI, including 12-inch SOI in Missouri — the stated unique US line — plus silicon-photonics and waveguide work for later applications.
- Compound — SiC under price pressure; GaN order-full, capacity guided +30% by the end of 2025.
Customer prepayments were still about NT$27.3bn (~US$0.93bn) at the end of Q2 2025. No new long-term-agreement prepayment landed in that quarter; US customers were already talking about securing local capacity.
Where it sits in the NVIDIA 800 VDC stack
One layer below the switch. A SiC or GaN device in an 800 V conversion stage starts as a substrate. GlobalWafers grows and wafers that starting material; it does not sell the MOSFET or the power rack.
The August 2025 800V sentence is a market sentence, not a design win: AI pull is GPU, HBM, cooling, 800-volt power supplies and AI-server cabinets. The chair was listing what is strong in semiconductors, not claiming an 800V wafer start. There is no named hyperscaler, no mix figure, and no claim that the SiC book is an HVDC book. SiC was the weak compound line; GaN was the strong one.
Treat GlobalWafers as a substrate option with an honest 800V mention, not as evidence it is on NVIDIA's bill of materials.
Coverage note
The latest completed dump in this archive is 18 August 2025 (Q2 2025). Public IR dates after that — including a November 2025 call and an English online call on 4 August 2026 — are not in the transcription archive, so they are not written up here. A later call that discussed 12-inch SiC sampling is one of those missing files, not a fact to back-fill into the August note.
