Who GW Instek is

Good Will Instrument (2423.TW), sold worldwide under the GW Instek brand, is a test-and-measurement house. It also owns Japan's Texio and Taiwan's Prodigit, which together widen the catalogue to more than 300 instruments. Measurement instruments are 80–90% of group revenue; environmental testing and video security make up the rest.

It is not on NVIDIA's published 800 VDC partner list. It is in this collection because management said HVDC-related test equipment, solid-state transformers, and higher-power PSU modules are in customer evaluation or development — and that 2027 double-digit growth depends on those programmes landing.

Business mix

Five instrument families: power and loads, oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, signal generators, and safety/measurement gear. Power products are the largest line — about half of sales recently — with measurement instruments and environmental testing the next disclosed slices. Environmental test carries a lower margin because some hosts are sourced from a Japanese partner.

Production is split between Tucheng, Taiwan (new high-end products) and Suzhou (mature, higher-volume lines). R&D is 8–10% of revenue, and nearly 30% of global headcount sits in R&D. Sales run mainly through distributors, which is why management will not give an AI-server revenue share.

Where it sits in the NVIDIA 800 VDC stack

One layer before the hardware ships: the instruments that qualify power supplies, loads, and cooling loops.

NVIDIA's architecture needs high-power PSU and load testing today, and will need HVDC and SST / MV rectifier validation if 13.8–35 kV AC is converted straight to 800 VDC. GW Instek's disclosed position splits cleanly:

  • Shipping now: instruments into AI servers, motherboard test, and air- and liquid-cooling validation — ASR-6000 and PHU sources, PEL-5000C electronic loads, and data acquisition. This is the current 48 V / high-power-AC generation, not 800 VDC.
  • In evaluation, not in the numbers: higher-power PSU modules, solid-state transformers, and HVDC-related test equipment. Management's own condition is that 2027 can stay double-digit if those programmes are designed in.

Treat the HVDC/SST work as a capability in customer labs, not a shipping 800 V line. There is no customer name, no SOP date, and no AI mix figure on this call.
