Who Lite-On is
Lite-On Technology (2301.TW) is a Taiwanese power and optoelectronics maker that has spent the last five years converting itself from an ODM/OEM contract manufacturer into a supplier of high-value AI infrastructure hardware. Return on invested capital went from 28% in 2020 to 55% in 2023 on the back of that shift.
It is one of four Taiwan-listed companies on NVIDIA's published 800 VDC ecosystem list, under power system components, alongside Delta, BizLink and Lead Wealth.
Business mix
- Cloud and IoT — the growth engine, and now the majority of revenue. AI server power supplies, battery backup units (BBU), power shelves, rack-level power, and liquid cooling including CDUs and sidecars.
- Optoelectronics — legacy couplers plus a push into high-speed optics through a 21% stake in Singapore InP specialist Denselight, aimed at 1.6T/3.2T optical engines and co-packaged optics.
- IT and consumer electronics — PC, gaming, and low-earth-orbit satellite power. A declining share, managed for price rather than volume.
Where it sits in the NVIDIA 800 VDC stack
Lite-On is a rack-level integrator: power shelf, BBU, HVDC power rack, and CDU. In NVIDIA's reference architecture that is the block between the facility DC distribution board and the compute node. It is the Taiwan name with the most explicit public timeline for an 800V HVDC power rack.
Strategy
Manufacturing is being pulled out of China — non-China capacity is targeted above 60% by end-2026 and 70% in 2027, across Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, and a new Texas site. R&D runs at roughly 5–5.5% of revenue. The stated commercial goal is US$1bn of annual revenue per major cloud customer.
