Who Song Chuan is
Song Chuan Precision (7788.TW) designs and makes relays and contactors. It was founded in 1974, listed on 16 October 2025, and still sells under its own Song Chuan brand through its own sales force rather than distributors. Six plants — Shulin and Chiayi in Taiwan, Mexico, Xiamen, India, Vietnam — and seven sales offices. Tooling, metal and plastic parts, and the automation equipment itself are designed in house. Automotive-grade quality systems are applied across every line, not only the car parts.
It is not on NVIDIA's list. It is here because it has named HVDC DC relays, a Super Seal liquid-cooled type, and joint development on next-generation AI PSUs with Delta, Lite-On and AcBel, some of it already in qualification.
Business mix
New energy was 59% of 2025 sales, with a target above 70%. Inside that bucket:
- Energy storage — portable, residential, commercial and utility cabinets. Named as a core supplier to a US storage OEM, with more than a hundred Song Chuan relays in a single cabinet. Highest margin of the growth lines.
- Solar inverters and smart grid — including smart meters.
- EV and charging — BMS, OBC, wallbox, supercharger. BMW i3/i8, a Mercedes-Benz new EV platform, and a US EV-maker supercharger programme were named. Margin similar to AI power.
Power and control is the AI-data-center line: server PSUs, automatic transfer switches and PDUs.
Low-voltage automotive is body control — windows, seats, lights — 40 to 100 relays per car, on both ICE and EV platforms.
Appliances are the legacy line, expected to shrink as a share.
Chiayi and Mexico were expanded together in 2025. Utilisation is held at 80–85%; Chiayi and Vietnam still have room, and further capacity follows customer programmes. Laboratory rating goes to 2,500 V.
Where it sits in the NVIDIA 800 VDC stack
On the DC switching path, not in the PSU magnetics and not in the rack sheet metal.
NVIDIA's architecture puts a load-break contactor on the 800 V distribution run, and a high-voltage PSU still needs DC relays inside the box. Song Chuan's disclosed answer is HVDC DC relays plus a Super Seal fully sealed type aimed at liquid-cooled environments, in development with Taiwan's main PSU houses — Delta, Lite-On, AcBel — with some programmes in qualification. That is a component design-in at the PSU makers, not a claim to be on the compute Power Rack.
Keep the other 800 V story separate. Vehicle platforms moving from 400 V to 800 V, plus V2X and NACS, lift relay content from about US$20–40 on a conventional car to US$125–250 on an EV. That is automotive high-voltage, not data-center HVDC.
Strategy
Push new-energy mix above 70%, extend traditional relay know-how into high-voltage, high-current contactors, and use the multi-country footprint when customers want non-China or non-Taiwan origin. Custom work is the ASP lever.
